Imani Williams was born and raised in Atlanta,Georgia. He started dancing his junior year at Collins Hill High School in Lawrenceville, Georgia. He soon developed a passion and began training at Sugarloaf Performing Arts (SPA) under the direction of Lori Zamzow-Wire. After graduating high school Imani decided to move to New York to train on a full scholarship in a Jazz and Contemporary program directed by Michael Blake, at the world renowned Joffrey Ballet School. While being in the program he trained intensely in variety of techniques including hip-hop, Horton, Latin jazz, musical theater, street jazz, and many more. During the program Imani had the honor of dancing works by Bradley Shelver, Matthew Powell, Jennifer Archibald, Kevin Wyn, and Nathan Trice. He has had the opportunity to work with former prima ballerina Margo Sappington, Tony award-winner Chet Walker, and choreographer of the musical Rent, Marlies Yearby. Through his connections he's made at Joffrey Imani danced throughout New York for two years performing works by Sekou Mcmiller, Lane Gifford, Tyler Gilstrap, and Emily Bufferd. He has been featured on the Joffrey Ballet School advertisements and promotional materials shot by Lois Greenfield and selected to showcase his original choreography at the Alvin Ailey Performance Space. This will be his 2nd season dancing with FDT.
